OPINION: Show no mercy against Scotland

First up, the Test match in Paris. I thought the All Blacks comfortably got themselves in a position to shut the French down on Saturday. I thought the attitude in that first 40 minutes was very good, and while there was plenty of appetite from both teams, the All Blacks shut the door on the French by half time.

QUICK TAP: ALL BLACKS WILL DRAW INSPIRATION FROM LYON EFFORT

Let's give the French some credit here, though. Given all that's going on in the background, they tested the All Blacks well in that second half. They were camped in the New Zealand half, but just couldn't finish everything given to them on their plate.

Isn't it great to see a midweek game? Sure makes the week go a fair bit faster, and credit to the French but they showed up in a big way on Tuesday night our time. They were definitely asking questions, but that's the beauty of the French - they scored tries and were a bigger threat. But as they seem to do week in, week out the All Blacks controlled the game and pushed away to win the game - even if they had to defend for their life to earn it!
I really like the look of this All Black pack. It shows absolutely no mercy and if conditions are firm this weekend at Murrayfield, they could run completely run Scotland ragged and whack them by 50 to 60 points. I watched their 44-38 win against Samoa last week and it looked more like a Barbarians game than a Test match. It was their first hit out of the autumn series but that's no excuse, given the guys have had 10 Premiership games, play each other regularly and have key combinations within those Premiership teams.

One thing I think the All Blacks need to improve a touch more is their work at the back of the scrum. Obviously it's great that Kieran Read has made it through to be selected this weekend, but I think we need to carry off the base of the scrum more.

Sometimes we get a bit too complicated when it comes to set-piece. Let's keep it simple off the base of the scrum, poke the blinds a bit more with the No.8-halfback combination, then get that quick, second phase ball.

If we do that, then we're well on the way to that 60-point humbling I'm picking.

Do us proud boys, and show no mercy!
